Hear ye!! Hear ye!!

So, basically with the form there I've provided the structure. Along with that goes style, which is almost always dark and ominous; tone, which is almost always intimate, solemn, somber, and serious; and voice, which is almost always in active voice (meaning the characters/monsters are the ones doing the action.. monster novels are almost always in third or first person). Its almost always told from the human character's point of view, although in some novels like 'Frankenstein' you follow the monster around, although I'm pretty sure we don't really see inside his head, so to speak. Frankie's a weird one though.. maybe I'll get into that later..
Now as far as the content goes.. I've basically given you the plot, setting, and characterization when I gave the structure. The subject is, obviously horror driven monster action.. but there are usually several themes or messages involved in these classic tales. There is almost always a feeling of isolation and loneliness, whether it be felt by he monster (as with Frankie) or in the characters (as with John Harker in 'Dracula'). There's also, obviously the fear. And another one that I've come across through the lovely and informative Wikipedia (ooh ooh! hyperlink!!) there always seems to be a scientific thread running through the novels..

This leads me to think that the message of these monster novels would be that no matter how bad society will fuck up, we can be saved by intelligence and science! (insert Monster Squad quote here [but only the first quote.. the title of the vid is misleading!])
And then of course there is audience, which is of course anyone who is into reading horror novels! duh! Totally popular culture, although some of the the older ones are technically considered literature.. Originally, there were only these beauties in novel form, as with our lovely Dracula and Frankenstein, but with the introduction of film, classic monster horror boomed! But again, only to those willing to watch it. However, there have been so many subcultures devoted to these creatures of monster lore its insane! There are people out there who really think that they are vampires... drink blood and everything... oiy. And then you have the 'psychic vampires' who will feed off a persons 'energy.' Jeebus lord.. Maniacs and Crazy people, I say! ( about 4:25 in the vid :p )
